Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals were seen as the strongest teams of IPL 2020 right from the start. Both had strong first XIs, good bench strength, and adequate back-up for key players. While the Mumbai Indians played almost the entire league stage as defending champions. The Capitals succumbed in the middle before setting foot at the right time.
Now here they will be face to face again, the winner will get the final ticket in the first qualifier in Dubai. The loser will have a chance to capitalize on himself in the eliminator, but neither team would like to take that route. Perhaps that’s why Rohit Sharma returned to the hamstring injury and made himself prominent in the last league game of the Mumbai Indians, while nothing was at stake.
After being packed with heavyweight bowlers one after the other by both sides, it could come down to batting units. As we have all seen in this IPL 2020, Mumbai Indians have shown some fantastic form through out the season and that’s the reason they are at top of the table, coming to Delhi Capitals heavily depending on Shikhar Dhawan during the second half of the season.
Predicted XI – Mumbai Indians:
|Ishan Kishan||Quinton de Kock (wk)||Suryakumar Yadav|
|Kieron Pollard||Rohith Sharma (capt)||Hardik Pandya|
|Krunal Pandya||Trent Boult||Nathan Coulter-Nile/James Pattinson|
|Rahul Chahar||Jaspreet Bumrah|
Mumbai Indians also have a better record in the playoffs. The four-time champion has won four of his last five playoff games. Apart from that, DC have shown some down trend in last six matches, they have won only one. Past performance or current form, no matter how you look at it, the Mumbai Indians start as favorites for Thursday’s game.
In the news R Ashwin stepped onto the field, he completed his four-over quota in the last league game of the Capitals against the Royal Challengers. It is understood that he was suffering a hamstring injury in the match. However, he bowls in the nets on the eve of the qualifier, so expect action from him.
Previous meetingsMumbai Indians made double appearances on the Capitals in the league stage. In the first game, Dhawan’s 52-ball 69 was able to score only 162 runs for 4, which was won by Mumbai Indians by five wickets thanks to half-centuries from Quinton de Kock and Suryakumar Yadav.
Then last week Trent Boult and Jaspreet Bumrah took three wickets each to restrict the Capitals to 110 runs. 9. Ishaan Kishan’s unbeaten century from 72 balls in an unbeaten 72 balls put Mumbai Indians out for nine wickets and 34 balls. to leave. That game was played in Dubai, the venue for the qualifiers.
Predicted XI – Delhi Capitals:
|Prithvi Shaw||Shikhar Dhawan||Shreyas Iyer (capt)|
|Ajinkya Rahane||Rishabh Pant (wk)||Marcus Stoinis|
|R Ashwin||Axis Patel||Daniel Samms|
|Enrich Nortje||Kagiso Rabada|
Strategy punishes Over all T20 cricket, Bumrah is one the best bowlers and first in the race purple cap. But Delhi Capitals have shown some exceptional numbers agaist him. Rahane, Iyer and Dhawan have 159 runs against Bumrah with a SR of 134.75. But the important point is Bumrah never took there wickets. On the other hand, Rishabh Pant, Marcus Stoinis and Axar Patel have socred around 40 runs against Bumrah with a strike rate below 110. Trent Boult proved to have initial wickets within the Powerplay in last 10 out of the 14 matches. Mumbai Indians should use Bumrah, rather than top order, they should prefer him in the middle order.
Since 2019, Sharma’s IPL strike rate against spin in Powerplay is just 90; De Cock is 93. Hence the Capitals can use Ashwin against the Mumbai Indians openers. Ashwin has also dismissed D Cock three times in five T20 innings.
To give the Capitals a headache as the fifth bowler, he replaced Shimron Hetmeyer with Rahane against Royal Challengers. Allowing himself to play left-handed seamer Daniel Symes. Although Samson scored 40 runs for his four wickets, Rahane scored 60 from 46 balls at No.3. While Prithvi Shaw is still struggling for runs at the top of the order, the Capitals can continue with the same strategy that Rahane as a throne has experienced.
